FIFA will sell the turf to fans after the 2026 World Cup final
FIFA has decided to sell fans pieces of turf from the stadium that will host the 2026 World Cup final. Prices will start at $450, and the most expensive collector’s sets will cost up to $3,000.
The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) has decided to mark the 2026 World Cup final in an unusual way. After the decisive match, the organization plans to put up for sale actual pieces of turf from MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, where the tournament final will take place. This will allow fans to purchase a piece of history from one of the world’s most important soccer matches, according to The Athletic.
The most affordable option will cost $450. For this price, buyers will receive a small piece of turf that will be removed from the stadium after the final. But FIFA didn’t stop there. For collectors, more expensive sets priced at $900, $1,200, and $3,000 have been prepared. These are set to become the most exclusive souvenirs of the upcoming World Cup.
The collector’s sets will include more than just a piece of the field. The turf will be encased in a special transparent acrylic capsule featuring the 2026 World Cup logo. It will also feature the venue of the final, the date of the match, and the final score. In addition, buyers will receive a USB drive containing a documentary film about the World Cup. Thus, the souvenir will be not only a memento but also a complete collector’s set.
According to journalists’ estimates, if FIFA manages to sell all the pieces of turf and special sets, the organization could earn about $11 million. However, not everyone who wants one will be able to purchase this souvenir. Sales are planned exclusively for buyers in the U.S., the U.K., and European countries. It is not yet known whether the list of countries will be expanded later.
The 2026 World Cup final will take place on July 19 at MetLife Stadium. The match is scheduled to begin at 10:00 p.m. Kyiv time. Immediately after the game ends, the turf will be removed and prepared for sale. For many soccer fans, this could be an opportunity to get a unique souvenir from the year’s biggest sporting event. “FIFA has put pieces of turf from MetLife Stadium—the venue for the 2026 World Cup final—up for sale,” reports The Athletic.
Such initiatives have been used in global sports before, but this time it involves one of the most prestigious soccer tournaments on the planet. FIFA expects demand for collectible souvenirs to be high, as the World Cup final traditionally attracts the attention of millions of fans around the world, according to The Athletic.
