FIS has allowed Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete in international skiing events
The International Ski Federation (FIS) Council has allowed athletes from Russia and Belarus to participate in international competitions. At the same time, a number of conditions and restrictions have been imposed on them.
“Gathering in Tun, Switzerland, for a two-day meeting, the FIS Council resolved the issue of the conditions under which athletes from Belarus and Russia will be eligible to compete in FIS events during the 2026–27 season,” the statement reads.
It is noted that following recent decisions by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) on this matter, the FIS Council reviewed the situation and decided that athletes and support staff from the two countries may be granted access to FIS competitions provided they sign a declaration of neutrality based on a set of principles established by the FIS.
“Compliance with these principles of neutrality will be continuously monitored, and sanctions will be imposed in the event of violations,” the statement said.
In addition, the Council noted that these athletes’ participation is limited to specific competitions and is contingent upon the absence of any national symbols, such as flags, national anthems, or uniforms. The athletes must also comply with all applicable anti-doping requirements.

The EU has imposed sanctions against the head of the Russian Olympic Committee and the president of FIDE.
Estonia, together with its partner countries, plans to appeal to the European Commission to review funding for sports organizations that support the return of Russia and Belarus to international competitions.
Ukrainian skeleton racer Vladislav Geraskevich called the International Olympic Committee’s decision to temporarily lift the ban on the Russian Olympic Committee’s activities “shameful.” The athlete stated that the IOC is ignoring the facts regarding the involvement of Russian sports organizations in the occupied territories of Ukraine.
