Türkiye defeats Germany to reach European Volleyball Championship semifinals

Türkiye’s women’s national team defeated Germany 3-1 at the 2026 European Volleyball Championship in Istanbul and advanced to the semifinals. The reigning champions won the first, third and fourth sets — 25:18, 25:18 and 25:22. Germany won the second set 25:22.

As Anadolu Agency reports, Melissa Vargas was the highest scorer of the match with 26 points. She scored eight points in the first set, including four aces. Ilkin Aydin added seven points in the opening set.

First set

The hosts started the match with a 5:1 run. Germany cut the deficit to 11:9, but the Turkish team extended its lead again to 15:10 and later went ahead 17:10. After a four-point run by the German national team, the score became 17:14, but Daniele Santarelli’s team closed out the set 25:18.

End of the match

Germany took a 6:1 lead in the second set and maintained its advantage until the end, winning 25:22 to level the match. Türkiye regained control of the game in the third set: after making it 8:5, it extended the gap to 12:6 and won 25:18.

At the start of the fourth set, the Turkish national team led 9:7 and later opened a five-point lead at 21:16. Germany tried to reduce the deficit, but Türkiye won the set 25:22 and sealed the match victory. In the semifinals in Istanbul, Türkiye will play Serbia on Saturday.
