In the United States, Philadelphia Eagles right tackle Lane Johnson announced his retirement from the NFL after 14 seasons. The 36-year-old football player said he had hoped to play one more season but decided to prioritize his mental health and spend more time with his family, The Guardian reports.

A decision after lengthy deliberation

In a social media statement, Johnson said that his personal and family priorities had changed. According to him, focusing on his mental health is critically important. He also stated that he would have to be fully committed to the team, coaches, club and fans if he continued playing.

The player announced his decision two days after he did not take part in the Eagles' game against the Los Angeles Rams due to personal circumstances. During training camp, Johnson also missed four practices for personal reasons, and after returning he said that this season would likely be his last.
