Cyclist Roglič wins European time trial championship — Dawn

Slovenian cyclist Primož Roglič won the individual time trial at the European Championships, held in the town of Šenčur, Slovenia. Over the 22-kilometre distance, the 36-year-old athlete beat Frenchman Bruno Armirail by 6.59 seconds, Dawn reports.

Lead of less than seven seconds

Roglič started quickly and maintained his advantage over his rivals. Another French rider, Maxime Decomble, took third place.

The Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion in the time trial competed with the support of home fans. Reigning world and Olympic champion in this discipline Remco Evenepoel, as well as Italian time trial specialist Filippo Ganna, did not start.

Frenchman Paul Seixas also missed the European Championships, focusing on the one-day classic race Tour of Lombardy, scheduled for this weekend. None of the medalists from the World Championships held just over two weeks ago took part.

Reusser's fifth title

Reigning world champion Marlen Reusser won the women's time trial. She claimed the European champion's title for the fifth consecutive year.

Dutch rider Demi Vollering finished second after winning the world and European road races over the previous ten days. Frenchwoman Juliette Berteau took bronze.
