Colombia knock Nigeria out of U20 World Cup in stoppage time — Premium Times Nigeria
Colombia defeated Nigeria in the quarterfinals of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Łódź, Poland. Valerin Loboa scored the winning goal in the second minute of stoppage time, Premium Times Nigeria reports.
Nigeria’s missed chances
In the first half, the Nigerian team were more active near their opponents’ goal and created several chances from set pieces. In the 19th minute, Janet Akekoromowei struck the crossbar with a shot from the edge of the penalty area. In the 38th minute, Colombia goalkeeper Luisa Agudelo tipped Tumininu Adeshina’s shot over the bar.
Nigeria also came close to scoring through the efforts of Favour Nkwocha, Tosin Rafiu and Onyedikachi Ekezie, but Colombia’s defence prevented them from opening the scoring. In the second half, Colombia’s Cynthia Cabezas and Juana Ortegon, as well as Nigeria’s Rebecca Adegbemile, received yellow cards.

Red card and stoppage-time goal
In the 77th minute, Nigeria were reduced to 10 players: Kafayat Mafisere received a straight red card for a foul on Samantha Rodriguez. Coach Moses Aduku brought on Winner Onaité David for Queen Joseph and Precious Oscar for Favour Nkwocha.
In the second minute of stoppage time, Loboa took advantage of a through ball. Nigeria goalkeeper and captain Christiana Uzoma saved her first shot, but Loboa scored from the rebound to send Colombia into the semifinals.
Emmanuel Ikpeme, acting general secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation, said the team gave everything but failed to convert numerous chances. Nigeria’s ambassador to Poland, Chioma Ohakim, supported the players and coaching staff in the dressing room at ŁKS Miejski Stadium after the match.
