A game jersey belonging to legendary basketball player Michael Jordan was sold at auction for $12.26 million. The item has become one of the most expensive sports memorabilia pieces ever sold at auction.
It is a white Chicago Bulls jersey that Jordan wore during the 1998 NBA Finals against the Utah Jazz. It was during that season that the team won its sixth championship title.
In the game where Jordan wore the jersey that was sold, he scored 24 points. After that, the Bulls closed out the Finals with a victory and became NBA champions.
Along with the jersey, Jordan’s car—a Ferrari 550 Maranello—was also sold at auction. The buyer paid $2.7 million for it, setting a record for a car of this model.
Michael Jordan won six NBA championships with the Chicago Bulls during his career. He was named Most Valuable Player in each of those six championship series. He was also named the regular-season MVP five times.
