Marti Kostyuk failed to advance to the semifinals of the WTA 500 tournament in Mexico
Ukraine’s No. 2 player, Marta Kostyuk, concluded her run at the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA 500) tournament in Guadalajara, Mexico, which had a prize pool of $1.2 million.
In the quarterfinal match, Kostyuk, who is ranked 10th in the WTA rankings, lost to “neutral” player Lyudmila Samsonova, who is ranked 50th. The match ended with a score of 6–4, 2–6, 5–7.
The loss in Guadalajara prevented Kostyuk from climbing to ninth place in the WTA rankings the very next week. To set a new personal best, Marty needed to reach the semifinals.
Next week, Kostyuk is set to join the Ukrainian national team in Shenzhen, China, where our team will compete in the final round of the Billie Jean King Cup.
