Donkor midfielder called up to Ghana national team for first time — MyJoyOnline
Ghana national team head coach Carlos Queiroz has called up 21-year-old New York Red Bulls central midfielder Ronald Donkor to the national team for the first time. The footballer was included in the 24-player squad for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Côte d’Ivoire and Gambia, as well as a friendly against Morocco in Tangier, MyJoyOnline reports.
Maiden call-up
According to the outlet, Donkor received the invitation after strong performances for the American club this season. The midfielder has directly contributed to six New York Red Bulls goals in all competitions, scoring twice and providing four assists.
The footballer also has an 85% pass accuracy rate and has created 35 chances. In the current MLS season, Donkor has played 23 matches, starting all of them and averaging 83 minutes per game. In addition, he has played twice in the U.S. Open Cup.

Career in the United States
The midfielder moved to the United States in July 2022 and represented JMG Bamako at the early stage of his career. He initially played for the New York Red Bulls youth team before breaking into the club’s first team in the middle of last season.
Ghana will play their opening Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Côte d’Ivoire and Gambia. After that, Queiroz’s team will play an international friendly against Morocco in Tangier.
