Nika Kiryos has been temporarily suspended from tennis tournaments due to drug use

Australian tennis player Nick Kyrgios has been temporarily suspended from competition after testing positive for cocaine. The athlete is suspected of violating anti-doping rules.

 

Kirios, 31, submitted a sample during the ATP 250 tournament in Mallorca, Spain, on June 22, 2026.

On July 17, 2026, a laboratory accredited by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) confirmed the presence of benzoxylecgonine, a metabolite of cocaine.

Kyrgios’s provisional suspension from competition took effect on August 4. It is noted that the athlete has the right to appeal his suspension.

This was reported by the Independent Tennis Integrity Authority (ITIA).

The Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) has published updated rankings following the WTA 1000 tournament in Toronto. Ukraine’s top-ranked player, Elina Svitolina, remained in 9th place despite reaching the semifinals of the tournament. Marta Kostyuk also retained her 11th-place ranking.

As a reminder, on August 11, Elina Svitolina defeated Russia’s Katerina Aleksandrova in the quarterfinals of the WTA 1000 in Toronto and advanced to the semifinals. The Ukrainian lost the first set but staged a comeback to win the match in three sets—3-6, 6-0, 6-3.

Prior to that, Ukraine’s top-ranked player, Elina Svitolina, secured a victory in the round of 16 at the prestigious WTA 1000 tournament being held in Toronto.
