Newcastle signs Nico Gonzalez from Manchester City
Newcastle United have signed Spanish midfielder Nico Gonzalez from Manchester City on a long-term contract. Both Premier League clubs announced the transfer on Wednesday, Channel NewsAsia reports.

The clubs did not disclose the financial terms of the deal. However, British media estimated the transfer at around £52 million, or $70.65 million.
The 24-year-old Barcelona academy graduate joined Manchester City from Porto last year. He made 59 appearances and scored four goals for the English club.

Gonzalez said he was delighted to join the club and its project. He also noted that he had played twice at St James' Park for Manchester City and highlighted the atmosphere and support of Newcastle fans.
Changes in the clubs' midfields
Gonzalez had previously said he wanted to remain at Manchester City, but during the transfer window the club strengthened its midfield by signing Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi and Elliot Anderson. Gonzalez became another midfielder to leave City this summer after Bernardo Silva, Rodri and Tijjani Reijnders.
Newcastle head coach Matthias Jaissle said the newcomer would add quality and experience to the team in a key area of the pitch. Gonzalez will wear the number six shirt; he was presented to fans at St James' Park before the League Cup match against West Bromwich Albion. He became Newcastle's seventh senior summer signing.
