Orlando Pirates football club defeated Marumo Gallants 2-0 in a Betway Premiership match at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg, South Africa. Thanks to this victory, the team reduced the gap to league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns to one point and has a game in hand.

Fifth consecutive victory

According to TimesLIVE, Orlando Pirates have collected 19 points after seven matches. Mamelodi Sundowns have 20 points after eight games. For Pirates, this was their fifth consecutive league victory.

Cabello Kgositsile opened the scoring at around the 30th minute. He ran in behind the defenders and struck a volley into the near corner.

Shortly afterwards, Marumo Gallants had an opportunity to equalise. Following a loss of possession by their opponents, Mxolisi Kunene went one-on-one with goalkeeper Sipho Chaine but fired wide.

Match under Kananelo's management

In the second half, Marumo Gallants stepped up their efforts but were unable to break through the opposition defence or create dangerous chances. Orlando Pirates continued to dominate and doubled their advantage 15 minutes before the final whistle, with Nkosinathi Sibisi scoring from a corner.

After the victory over Durban City, Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou made one change, bringing in Simphiwe Selepe in place of Mtheteli Mthiyane, who remained on the bench. Marumo Gallants played the match under new coach Ronnie Kananelo, who replaced Phuti Mohafe.

For Gallants, this defeat was their fifth in seven league matches. The team, which has yet to win this season, has two points and sits bottom of the table.
