Swimmer Peng Xuwei sets Asian record in 200m backstroke — ECNS

Chinese swimmer Peng Xuwei won the gold medal in the women’s 200-meter backstroke at the Aichi–Nagoya Asian Games in Japan. In the final, she recorded a time of 2:05.77, setting a new Asian record, ECNS reports.

Approach to the distance

After the race, Peng Xuwei said that she had not set herself a specific time target. Instead, the athlete focused on how to complete each of the four 50-meter sections of the distance.

According to her, since the second half of the year, she has been engaging in psychological training two to three times a week. The swimmer noted that this helped her control herself better during competitions.

Target: the 2028 Olympics

Peng Xuwei expressed hope that her record would inspire other Asian backstroke swimmers to challenge her. In her view, this will enable athletes to push one another to improve and move closer together to the highest international level.

The Chinese swimmer named the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles as her next main goal. She said that she aims to swim even faster and compete against the world’s strongest swimmers.
