Rugby player Tui Kamikamika retired after suffering a stroke

32-year-old Melbourne Storm player Tui Kamikamika has immediately ended his rugby league career for medical reasons following a stroke he suffered in March, according to ABC News Australia.

Following the stroke, Kamikamika required heart and brain surgery. He had hoped to return to the Melbourne Storm roster this year, as well as play for the Fijian national team at the World Cup in October and lead the team onto the field as captain. However, new medical recommendations forced the athlete to announce the end of his playing career.

The rugby player has played 23 Test matches for the Fijian national team. He was part of the national team at the 2017 World Cup, where Fiji reached the semifinals and lost to Australia. Melbourne Storm CEO Justin Rodski highlighted Kamikamika’s contribution to the club’s success, his leadership qualities, and his dedication to representing Fiji.
