Rybakina defeats Osaka in the US to reach US Open quarterfinals
Kazakh tennis player Elena Rybakina defeated Japan’s Naomi Osaka 6:1, 6:4 in New York, United States, to reach the US Open quarterfinals. The fourth-round match at Flushing Meadows lasted 66 minutes.
Rybakina’s advantage
Second-seeded Rybakina won the first set in 22 minutes. She converted two of three break points and finished the set with a powerful serve. Osaka, seeded 13th, put up greater resistance at the start of the second set, but Rybakina regained the initiative.

At 2:2 in the second set, Osaka held her left leg due to an Achilles tendon problem that worsened in the third round. The Japanese player saved a break point, but in the seventh game Rybakina secured the decisive break after her opponent made a forehand error.
Quarterfinal opponent
In the quarterfinals, Rybakina will play Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen. The victory over Osaka also left the Kazakh player one win away from world No. 1, a position she could occupy for the first time. Rybakina previously won Wimbledon in 2022 and the Australian Open in 2026, Channel NewsAsia reports.
