Sainz to start 20th at Spanish Grand Prix after penalty
Williams driver Carlos Sainz will start from 20th position at the Spanish Grand Prix in Madrid after receiving a three-place grid penalty. The Spaniard was penalized for impeding Cadillac's Valtteri Bottas during Saturday qualifying.
Stewards' decision
As Channel NewsAsia reports, the incident occurred at turns six and seven during the first part of qualifying. The FIA said that the team did not warn Sainz, who was driving car number 55, about Bottas approaching on a fast lap. The stewards concluded that Sainz's car unnecessarily impeded car number 77.

Changes on the grid
The penalty dropped Sainz to 20th on the starting grid. Meanwhile, fellow Spaniard Fernando Alonso of Aston Martin, Cadillac's Sergio Perez and Bottas each moved up one position.
Sunday's race will consist of 57 laps and will be the first Formula 1 Grand Prix at the Madring circuit. Formula 1 champion Lando Norris of McLaren took pole position, beating championship leader Kimi Antonelli of Mercedes by 0.011 seconds. Sainz, a four-time race winner and former Ferrari driver, is 16th in the drivers' standings with six points, while Williams is ninth among 11 teams in the constructors' championship.
