The son of Putin supporter Plushenko has changed his sporting nationality and will compete for Azerbaijan
13-year-old Russian figure skater Alexander Plushenko, the son of two-time Olympic champion and Kremlin supporter Evgeni Plushenko, has received official permission to represent Azerbaijan at international competitions.
The Azerbaijan Winter Sports Federation announced that the International Skating Union (ISU) has approved the request, meaning that starting with the 2026–27 season, the athlete will be able to compete under the Azerbaijani flag.
Back in May, the Russian Figure Skating Federation approved Plushenko Jr.’s transfer to the Azerbaijani national team.
Alexander Plushenko is 13 years old. He performs in ice shows alongside his father and trains at the “Plushenko Angels” academy.
