Goland has become an unexpected trend in Peru
Erling Holland’s successful performance at the 2026 World Cup sparked an unexpected craze in Peru. According to the country’s National Registry of Civil Status, hundreds of parents named their newborn children after the Norwegian forward.
According to official statistics, 468 children were given the name “Holland,” while another 91 newborns were registered with the double name “Erling Holland.”
During the World Cup, the forward became one of the tournament’s standout players. In five matches, he scored seven goals and helped the Norwegian national team reach the World Cup quarterfinals for the first time in history.
Despite Holland’s popularity, the most common soccer-related name in Peru remains Neymar—more than 33,800 people bear it. Other popular names include Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Lamine Yamal.
