Svitolina advanced to the quarterfinals of the German Open
Elina Svitolina advanced to the quarterfinals of the prestigious German Open tennis tournament in Berlin. Ukraine’s top-ranked player and the tournament’s sixth seed confidently defeated Eva Lys, a German player of Ukrainian descent, in the second round.
The match ended with a victory for the Ukrainian in two sets, 6-3, 6-2. In the first set, Svitolina secured the lead with breaks in the fourth and sixth games, and in the second set, she sealed the victory by breaking her opponent’s serve twice in the fifth and seventh games.
Elina Svitolina’s next opponent in the quarterfinals will be determined shortly in the match between Alexandra Eala of the Philippines and Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan. The total prize pool for the German WTA 500 tournament is over $1.2 million.
