In Spain, La Liga president Javier Tebas dismissed claims that referees are allegedly biased against Real Madrid. He said such assumptions are detached from reality, MyJoyOnline reports.

Tebas' reaction

Tebas responded on social media to a Spanish media publication about an alleged “conspiracy” against Real Madrid. According to him, this version serves as an excuse for other problems that, in his assessment, are already apparent in the first matches of the season. The La Liga president also noted that it is easier to refer to a conspiracy than to explain events on the football pitch.

Earlier, Real Madrid head coach José Mourinho criticized the referees' work after his team's 1-2 defeat to Atlético last week. At the post-match press conference, he showed printouts with screenshots and said that Atlético players should have received two red cards in the first half.

Real Madrid's response

In the match against Atlético, Real Madrid were reduced to 10 men after defender Dean Huijsen was sent off. Mourinho said it was difficult for his team when playing 11 against 10, and suggested that an 11-against-9 numerical advantage for 50 minutes could have significantly changed the course of the match.

In response, Real Madrid called Tebas' use of his position to criticize the club unacceptable. In a statement, the Madrid club said that the La Liga president's remarks were serious and incomprehensible and harmed the image of the Spanish championship and Spanish football around the world. The club also stressed that the league chief must remain neutral.

After seven rounds, Real Madrid are fourth in La Liga, six points behind leaders Barcelona. The Catalan team have 21 points after winning all seven league matches.
