Hull City coach Serhii Yakirovych extends contract until 2028

In the United Kingdom, Hull City head coach Serhii Yakirovych has signed a new two-year contract with the club. The agreement will run until the summer of 2028 and includes an option to extend it through the end of the 2028/29 season, Anadolu Agency reports.

Promotion to the Premier League

The 49-year-old Bosnian specialist was appointed head coach in June 2025, after the club narrowly avoided relegation from the Championship in the previous season. In his first season working in English football, Yakirovych led the Tigers to the Premier League.

Hull City secured a place in the Championship play-offs on the final day of the regular season thanks to a 2-1 victory over Norwich City. Yakirovych averaged 1.58 points per match. In the play-off semi-final, the team overcame Millwall, and in the final at Wembley, it defeated Middlesbrough. During the promotion play-offs, the club played three consecutive matches without conceding a goal.

Start of the season

Yakirovych became the third coach in Hull City's history to lead the club to the Premier League through the play-offs. The current season is the team's first in the top division since the 2016/17 campaign. In their opening two matches, Hull City beat Manchester United 2-0 at home and then defeated Coventry City 1-0.

The coach said he had felt the support of the club and the fans from the moment he arrived, and described promotion to the Premier League as a dream come true. Hull City chairman Acun Ilicali called Yakirovych the “perfect coach” for the club's vision.
