Tottenham coach De Zerbi doubts Kudus’ participation in AFCON qualifiers

For Ghana’s national team, the participation of Tottenham midfielder Mohammed Kudus in the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches remains in question. London club head coach Roberto De Zerbi said that the footballer has not yet reached optimal physical condition, MyJoyOnline reports.

Return after injury

Kudus returned to the pitch at the end of last month, for the first time since suffering an injury in January 2026. He came on as a substitute in the match against Newcastle. After that, the 26-year-old Ghanaian appeared twice more from the bench, in matches against Nottingham Forest and Everton.

Before the English League Cup match against Liverpool, De Zerbi named Kudus, Mateus Fernandes and Conor Gallagher among the players who are still regaining full fitness. According to the coach, Kudus can play in the No. 10 position and give the team additional attacking options.

Prospects with Ghana’s national team

Due to the injury, Kudus missed Ghana’s 2026 World Cup campaign. He was expected to return to the national team at the end of the month for Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Côte d’Ivoire and Gambia.

At the same time, the player’s participation will depend on whether he can regain full physical fitness before the squad is announced by national team head coach Carlos Queiroz.
