Former Pakistan national hockey team captain Khalid Mahmood died in Pakistan on Thursday after a prolonged illness. He was 84. Dawn reports.

Khalid Mahmood was born on December 28, 1941, in Jhelum. He was part of one of Pakistan's most successful hockey teams.
At the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Mahmood won a silver medal with Pakistan's national team. He played as a right winger and also represented the national team at the 1966 Asian Games, where Pakistan won another silver medal.

In 1968, Mahmood was part of Pakistan's national team that won the gold medal at the Olympic Games in Mexico City. He was also a member of the team that won gold at the 1970 Asian Games in Bangkok.
Work in the federation
Mahmood served as secretary of the Pakistan Hockey Federation and worked as manager of the national team. According to his son, the funeral will take place on Friday in Faisalabad.
The International Hockey Federation, the Asian Hockey Federation, and members of Pakistan's hockey community, including former Olympians, expressed condolences over Mahmood's death.
