Maguchikh turned heads with her look on the red carpet ahead of the historic World Championships
The inaugural World Athletics Championships, to which only the world’s elite athletes were invited, has begun in Budapest. Before the start of the competition, the organizers held a red-carpet ceremony for the athletes.
Ukrainian track and field athlete Yaroslava Mahuchikh also attended the event and drew attention with her outfit.
Yaroslava’s Unique Look
Yaroslava Mahuchikh, the leader of Ukraine’s national high jump team, strayed from the typical athletic style, choosing a yellow T-shirt and a special good-luck charm for the event.
“At first, I had a slightly different plan, but it turned out to be this ‘little sun.’ Especially because of the ‘Dnipro hometown’ pendant, which I always carry with me. It’s really cool that they set up a red carpet for the athletes—it gave us extra motivation,” Maguchikh shared in a comment to “Suspilne Sport.”
The track and field athlete also noted the substantial prize money—the winner will receive $150,000 (compared to $70,000 at a regular World Championships)—though she emphasized that she competes first and foremost for the thrill of the competition.
A Landmark City and a Decisive Final
The competition is being held in Budapest—the city where Mahuchikh won her first world championship title. She is determined to repeat that success and clear all the heights on her first attempt.
Along with Yaroslava, two other Ukrainian athletes—Iryna Herashchenko and Yulia Levchenko—will be competing for medals.
The women’s high jump final will begin on Friday, September 11, at 8:13 p.m. Kyiv time. Live coverage of the competition will be available on the “Suspilne Sport” platform and local “Suspilne” channels.

Maguchikh’s Russian rival failed to advance to the 2026 European Championships final.
Ukraine’s top-ranked player, Elina Svitolina, fell one step short of the final at the WTA 1000 tournament in Toronto. In a tense semifinal, the Ukrainian lost in three sets to former world No. 1 Iga Świątek of Poland.
As a reminder, on August 11, Elina Svitolina defeated Russia’s Katerina Aleksandrova in the quarterfinals of the WTA 1000 in Toronto and advanced to the semifinals. The Ukrainian lost the first set but staged a comeback to win the match in three sets—3-6, 6-0, 6-3.
Prior to that, Ukraine’s top-ranked player, Elina Svitolina, secured a victory in the round of 16 at the prestigious WTA 1000 tournament being held in Toronto.
