Alexander Zverev wins US Open in the United States
In the United States, German tennis player Alexander Zverev defeated American Ben Shelton in the final of the US Open men's singles tournament. Zverev won the match in four sets and claimed the title, CBS News reports.
Second Grand Slam title
The US Open victory became Zverev's second Grand Slam title. The German tennis player won his first major title earlier in 2026 at the French Open.

Shelton's path to the final
Before the final, Ben Shelton defeated his compatriot Frances Tiafoe in a tense semifinal. He was aiming to become the first American to win a Grand Slam tournament in men's singles since Andy Roddick's victory at the 2003 US Open.
Shelton also became the first Black American to play in a US Open final since Arthur Ashe in 1972. In the decisive match, he lost to Zverev.
