Australian rugby league players Millie Elliott and Corban Baxter announce retirement
In Australia, NRLW and Sydney Roosters women’s rugby league players Millie Elliott and Corban Baxter have announced that they will retire after the current finals series. ABC News Australia reports.
The 28-year-old Elliott hopes to play for Australia at the World Cup at the end of the year. At the same time, after giving birth to a child last year, she wants to devote more attention to her family.
Baxter, 32, made the decision after returning to the field following an anterior cruciate ligament tear last year. She continued playing for the Roosters at fullback, but felt that it was becoming increasingly difficult for her body to withstand the workload.
Elliott’s career
Elliott became the first player to win NRLW titles with three clubs. She won championships twice with Brisbane, in 2019 and 2020, won with Newcastle in 2022, and with the Sydney Roosters in 2024.

Elliott also captained the Roosters during the team’s championship-winning 2021 season. She has played seven Test matches for Australia since making her debut in 2016, and has also made seven State of Origin appearances for New South Wales. Her career was interrupted by pregnancy and injuries; the athlete is a mother of three.
Sydney Roosters season
Elliott and Baxter have played in the NRLW since the tournament’s second season in 2019. Baxter missed the first four-week competition due to a shoulder injury and was one of the Sydney Roosters’ first players.
The Sydney Roosters enter the finals unbeaten this season. The team’s only loss over the past two years came in the 2025 final against Brisbane.
