Goals in the match
The hosts opened the scoring in the 35th minute. Following a Ben Whiteman corner, Kieffer Moore headed the ball into Southampton's net. The visitors were unable to equalize before the break, although they controlled the course of the game and created chances.
Southampton equalized in the 50th minute. After a low cross from James Bree, the ball rebounded to James Ward-Prowse, who, after his first shot was blocked, struck accurately on the rebound. This goal was Ward-Prowse's first since returning to the team.

Late-game climax
In the 55th minute, Moore came close to scoring his second goal: he shot from almost the halfway line after an unsuccessful pass by the opponent, but goalkeeper Daniel Peretz tipped the ball over the crossbar. Southampton then tried to take the lead, while Anthony Patterson stopped a dangerous Ward-Prowse free kick.
Wrexham's victory came from an incident at the end of normal time. Jacques Ekomie delivered a low pass from the left flank, and Schlotterbeck, under pressure from Callum O'Hare, turned the ball into his own net. It was Phil Parkinson's team's first home win of the Championship season.
