Scotland defender and captain Andy Robertson made his 100th appearance for the national team in the Nations League match against North Macedonia. He became only the second player in more than 150 years of Scotland's international history to reach the mark of 100 appearances, BBC Sport reports.

Two matches away from the record

Kenny Dalglish still holds the record for the most appearances for Scotland, with 102. Robertson could surpass that total as early as November if he plays in all of Scotland's remaining Nations League matches this year.

Robertson made his national-team debut in March 2014, when the 19-year-old Dundee United left-back played in a winning match against Poland. In 2018, Alex McLeish appointed him captain after Scott Brown ended his international career. Since then, Robertson has led the team onto the pitch 30 more times than any other player.

Appearances and productivity

During 12 years with the national team, Robertson has worked under four permanent head coaches: Gordon Strachan, Alex McLeish, Steve Clarke and Sebastien Pocognoli. He made the most appearances under Clarke — 68 — and was captain in all of them. Together, they led Scotland to three major international tournaments.

Robertson leads the Scotland national team in assists since his debut. He has also scored four goals: notably, he scored against Cyprus in 2019 and netted the winning goal in stoppage time against Poland in 2024. The defender started 98 of his 100 matches for the national team and played nine times at major tournaments. Scotland's only victory in those nine games came in June against Haiti in Boston during the World Cup.
