The Ukrainian women's team triumphed at the 100-piece draughts world championship in France
The Ukrainian women's national team won gold at the World 100-Square Draughts Team Championship in the rapid category, held in the French city of Saint-Dulchar.
This was announced by Leonid Broitman, vice president of the National Draughts Federation of Ukraine.
Our athletes demonstrated absolute dominance at the tournament and finished the competition without a single loss.
The Ukrainian national team roster:
- Viktoria Motrichko — International Grandmaster
- Olena Korotka — International Master
- Yulia Makarenkova — International Grandmaster
- Kateryna Musienko — FMJD Master
The tournament was held in a double-round-robin format and consisted of 10 rounds. The Ukrainian team secured 9 wins and just one draw.
In the first round, the Ukrainian draughts players defeated:
- Latvia — 5:1
- Poland — 6:0
- Lithuania — 4:2
- China — 4:2
- Italy — 4:2
In the second round, the Ukrainian national team defeated:
- Latvia — 4:2
- Poland — 6:0
- Lithuania — 5:1
The Ukrainian women played their only draw in the 9th round against China — 3:3. In the final match, the team confidently defeated Italy with a score of 6:0.
Final standings:
- Ukraine — 19 points
- China — 14 points
- Lithuania — 11 points
The best individual performances on the Ukrainian national team were delivered by:
- Viktoria Motrichko — 16 points
- Kateryna Musienko — 15 points
- Olena Korotka — 10 points
- Yulia Makarenkova — 6 points
Ukraine’s victory at the World 100-Square Checkers Championship served as yet another confirmation of the high level of Ukrainian checkers on the international stage.
