The winner of the junior French Open will renounce her Russian citizenship

Alisa Oktyabrova, a 17-year-old tennis player who competes under the Russian flag and won the Roland Garros junior tournament, will receive Czech citizenship this summer.

According to him, the athlete has been connected to the Czech Republic practically her entire life and developed her athletic skills there.

“Alisa has lived in the Czech Republic since she was two years old; she has been a member of our club since childhood and began training at a tennis school at the age of four, where she learned to play tennis and gradually developed into the player she is today. That is why we have supported her in every way and helped her obtain Czech citizenship, which was a logical step in her life. Her application has now been fully reviewed,” Maly noted.

On June 6, 2026, Oktyabrskaya played in the final of a Grand Slam junior tournament for the first time in her career and won the title at Roland Garros.

Despite her Russian citizenship, the tennis player effectively grew up and trained in the Czech Republic, where she has lived since early childhood.

Alisa Oktyabrova is currently ranked 309th in the WTA rankings and continues to gradually climb the world rankings.

Obtaining Czech citizenship could be an important step in the athlete’s future career, as she has already made a name for herself by winning one of the world’s most prestigious junior tennis tournaments.

This was reported by Miroslav Maly, director of the Sparta Tennis Club.

We remind you that one of the biggest upsets of the year continues at Roland Garros. Polish tennis player Maja Chwalinska, who was ranked only 114th in the world before the start of the tournament, has advanced to the final of the French Open.

On Thursday, June 4, Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk, who defeated Elina Svitolina in the quarterfinals, will play in the semifinals of Roland Garros 2026. The Ukrainian’s opponent will be Russian player Mira Andreeva. The match will determine one of the finalists of the prestigious Grand Slam tournament in Paris.

Svitolina also confidently defeated an American player and advanced to the round of 16 at Indian Wells.

Sobolenko lost in the quarterfinals of Roland Garros.
