The FIFA President announced an expansion of the number of teams participating in the World Cup
Following the 2026 World Cup, which will feature 48 national teams, the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) is considering further expanding the tournament. FIFA President Gianni Infantino stated that the new format has fully proven its worth and has allowed teams from regions with less of a soccer tradition to compete at the highest level.
The FIFA president highlighted the high level of competitiveness among teams from different continents and noted that expanding the tournament to 64 teams would make the championship even more global. Official discussions on a possible reform are scheduled to begin immediately after the conclusion of the current World Cup.

At the World Cup, which is being held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, both semifinal matchups have been determined. In the first semifinal match, France will face Spain, while in the other match, England and Argentina will compete for a spot in the final.
