In an interview with UA.News, Olga Petriy, a manicure expert at Leo Beauty Club Warsaw, explained why clients are increasingly choosing nude shades, which polishes provide the most natural look, and what mistakes to avoid during summer nail care.
This Summer’s Trending Shapes and Colors
This summer, we’re seeing several standout trends. As before, milky, nude, and semi-transparent shades are in high demand—they look luxurious and complement absolutely any look.
At the same time, many clients aren’t afraid to add bold accents: coral, tomato red, creamy yellow, sky blue, and rich pink have become the real hits of the season.
As for shape, the soft square and short or medium almond shapes are the most popular choices. This type of manicure looks neat, modern, and is as comfortable as possible for everyday life.
Leading design trends include the subtle micro-French, chrome accents with a delicate shimmer, the “glazed nails” effect, as well as minimalist patterns and small color accents.
Minimalism or Bold Seasonal Designs
Minimalism is currently at the forefront. More and more women want a manicure that looks natural, sophisticated, and stays on for several weeks. Solid-color polishes, clean lines, semi-transparent bases, and subtle details are now much more popular than intricate designs.
That said, there’s always room for bold experiments in the summer. Before going on vacation, many opt for rich shades or unusual accents, but even these have become more elegant and understated than they were a few years ago.
New Polishes and Techniques
The main trend of recent years isn’t so much about new materials as it is about a gentle approach to nails. More and more attention is being paid to strengthening the natural nail plate, proper nail architecture, and the quality of the polish.
Modern strengthening bases, thin modeling materials, and coatings are also widely used, allowing for the most natural-looking results without the feeling of heavy, bulky nails. When it comes to pedicures, more and more clients are choosing combined care treatments that help maintain the health of the skin on their feet and prolong the feeling of comfort.
Proper Care for Nails and Foot Skin in the Summer
In the summer, it’s especially important to regularly moisturize the skin on your hands and feet. After exposure to the sun, seawater, or a pool, the skin loses moisture more quickly, so using a good moisturizer should become a daily habit.
If you’re vacationing by the sea, avoid using your feet as a “natural exfoliator” by constantly walking barefoot on hot sand or rocks. This can lead to dry skin and cracks. It’s better to keep your skin soft with professional care and at-home moisturizing.
I also recommend not trying to remove your nail polish yourself while on vacation. If your manicure was done well, it will easily withstand the trip. And when you return, it’s best to schedule a touch-up right away.
What trends will dominate as fall approaches
Deeper, more subdued shades traditionally make a comeback in the fall. I think we’ll once again see high demand for chocolate, wine, plum, olive, and dark blue colors.
In terms of designs, the trend toward minimalism will continue, but we’ll see more textural effects: delicate metallics, semi-transparent finishes with a subtle sheen, modern French manicures, and interesting combinations of matte and glossy surfaces.
The main trend that remains unchanged is well-groomed hands and feet. More and more often, clients are opting not for flashy designs, but for high-quality, neat manicures and pedicures that look aesthetically pleasing, stay fresh-looking for a long time, and highlight their individual style.
