Hernán Crespo has been named head coach of Mexico's Atlas
Former Argentine national team forward Hernán Crespo has been named head coach of the Mexican soccer club Atlas.
The Argentine coach has signed a two-year contract with the Guadalajara-based club. Crespo will make his debut as head coach on the night of July 18, when Atlas faces León on the road in a Mexican League match. In August, the team will also begin play in the group stage of the US-Mexico League Cup.
Crespo’s most recent coaching position was with Brazil’s São Paulo, which he left in March of this year. Prior to that, the Argentine managed Qatar’s Al-Duhail and the UAE’s Al-Ain, with whom he won the AFC Champions League.
During his playing career, Crespo played for River Plate, Parma, Lazio, Inter, Milan, Chelsea, Genoa, and other clubs. In the early 2000s, he was one of Ukrainian Andriy Shevchenko’s main rivals in the race for the title of top scorer in Italy’s Serie A, and in the 2000–01 season, he became the league’s leading scorer.
This was reported by “Glavkom,” citing the club’s official website.
As a reminder, Turin’s “Juventus” announced the signing of Turkish national team defender Zeki Çelik, who left “Roma” after his contract expired.
The Spanish national team became the first finalist of the 2026 World Cup, defeating France in the semifinal match.
