Hubble captured an image of the globular cluster NGC 6723

The Hubble Space Telescope has photographed the globular cluster NGC 6723, also known as the “Chandelier Cluster.” It is located about 27,000 light-years from Earth in the Milky Way, according to Space.com.

Each bright dot in the image is a separate star in this cluster. Globular clusters typically consist of old stars, and some of them are 10 billion years old or older. Such clusters are considered to be home to some of the oldest stars in the galaxy and the universe.

Globular clusters can contain anywhere from tens of thousands to millions of stars. About 150 such objects are known in the Milky Way. Due to their significant mass and large number of stars, they are usually easier to observe than smaller star clusters.

NGC 6723 was discovered by British astronomer James Dunlop in 1826. The cluster is located in the constellation Sagittarius, near the constellation Corona Australis. According to Space.com, it can be seen with binoculars or a telescope.
