Innometry ships equipment for inspecting 46-series batteries
Innometry has shipped non-destructive inspection equipment for a mass-production line of 46-series cylindrical battery cells to a major battery manufacturer. This was reported by The Korea Herald. The delivery was made after a supply contract was signed in February.

The delivery included computed tomography systems for assessing electrode alignment, as well as X-ray systems for detecting foreign materials inside battery cells.
Innometry said this is the industry’s first application of an in-line CT inspection system capable of inspecting 46-series batteries in a mass-production environment. The company also said that its foreign-object detector, which it calls the world’s first of its kind, is already operating at a commercial site.

Next-generation battery production
According to the publication, prismatic batteries dominate the global market due to safety, production scalability and yield rates. At the same time, major battery manufacturers are shifting to 46-series cylindrical cells as Tesla and BMW actively develop next-generation batteries for electric vehicles.
Korean battery manufacturers are building mass-production lines in Europe and North America, focusing on quality control and yield stabilization. Innometry uses precision optics and artificial intelligence-based software, and is also developing inspection equipment for prismatic batteries used in energy storage systems in North America and electric vehicles in Europe.
Innometry CEO Lee Gab-su said that project implementation timelines temporarily slowed the company’s financial performance in the second quarter. According to him, key customers continue to invest in establishing and retrofitting production lines, while the company is negotiating several projects in Korea and China.
