Innovative pilot project in Canada: Bitcoin mining heat powers industrial greenhouses

In Manitoba, Canada, a pilot project has been launched where the heat generated by Bitcoin mining is used to warm greenhouses that grow tomatoes year-round. This is significant as it enables more efficient energy use and reduces environmental impact.

The 3 MW liquid-cooled setup recovers up to 90% of the electricity consumed as heat — heating water above 75 °C without additional power input. The two-year project lowers electricity costs to about $0.035 per kWh, while also reducing fossil fuel consumption.

Such initiatives highlight the potential of combining cryptocurrency mining with sustainable food production and energy efficiency. Expanding similar projects could transform energy usage practices in the agriculture sector.
