Office and Teams chief Ryan Roslansky leaves Microsoft — The Verge

Microsoft Office and Teams chief Ryan Roslansky is leaving Microsoft after nearly 18 years at LinkedIn and the corporation. Before becoming head of Office, he was CEO of LinkedIn, The Verge reports.

Leadership changes

Roslansky’s departure has triggered new personnel reshuffles at Microsoft. The teams working on Office and Microsoft Teams will report to Charles Lamanna within the Copilot, Agents and Platform organization. Microsoft Chief Design Officer Jon Friedman will also report to Copilot chief Jacob Andreou.

In an internal memo seen by the publication, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said Roslansky is leaving the organization in a strong position. According to him, over the past year Roslansky’s team has worked to unify the product, engineering, and design foundations for the next stage of development.

The decision to leave the company

In his own address to the teams, Roslansky called the decision to leave Microsoft difficult. He explained that managing the next stage of work would require him to work full time every day at Microsoft’s headquarters in Redmond, but his life and his family’s life are tied to the San Francisco Bay Area.

Roslansky joined LinkedIn in 2009 as Jeff Weiner’s first hire. In 2020, he became CEO of LinkedIn. In his address, he noted that during his leadership LinkedIn surpassed 1 billion members, while the company’s business nearly tripled. Dan Shapero will continue to serve as CEO of LinkedIn.

Roslansky is leaving the company a week after the announcement of the new Copilot, which Microsoft positions as an operating system for work. About a month earlier, he warned that documents fully generated by artificial intelligence could create a monotonous stream of texts for workers and become a way to avoid writing and reading.
