Meta has launched Muse to help users create their own AI gadgets

Meta has open-sourced the code for its AI agent, Muse, allowing users to build their own devices based on it. The agent can be run on Raspberry Pi and ESP32 boards, with displays, microphones, speakers, buttons, and various sensors connected to them.

For developers, the company has released an SDK that simplifies the integration of Muse with various hardware. Among the projects proposed by Meta are a device with a touchscreen AMOLED display, a microphone, and a speaker; a system for outputting Muse to a TV via HDMI; and compact displays for reminders, shopping lists, and other information.

Separately, Meta introduced Muse Home Link—a device for connecting the AI agent to home appliances via Wi-Fi. Depending on the settings, Muse will be able to control lights, TVs, and other compatible devices, as well as interact with its own systems via a local HTTP API.

According to Net Friedman of Meta Superintelligence Labs, the company has manufactured 5,000 Muse Home Link devices. Users with an active Muse subscription in the U.S. will receive the devices for free—one per subscriber. Shipments are scheduled to begin in October.

Meta also warns that experimenting with the devices could result in damage, power issues, or voiding the warranty.

The state of New Mexico in the U.S. has asked a court to order Meta Platforms to pay a fine of between $35 billion and $40 billion following a jury verdict in a case involving the company’s misleading statements regarding the privacy of Facebook users’ data. The final amount of the fine will be determined by Judge Francis Matthew, who presided over the case in Santa Fe.

In the United Kingdom, the Wetherspoon pub chain and several other establishments have restricted the use of Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses. The devices, which can see, hear, and react to their surroundings, have become a subject of controversy due to concerns about covert recording and privacy violations.
