Chinese Nexperia launches production of own chips for greater independence
The Chinese subsidiary of semiconductor manufacturer Nexperia announced the start of producing its own chips. This move aims to achieve independence amid an ongoing conflict with its Dutch parent company.
According to the statement, Nexperia China has established production of several types of microchips that the European branch also manufactures, but using 12-inch wafers—technology that Nexperia’s European operations lack. Previously, the company produced wafers in Europe and assembled chips in China. The dispute between Nexperia and its Chinese owner Wingtech has been ongoing since October 2025, when Dutch authorities, citing national security concerns, stripped Wingtech of control over the company.
This development may signal further escalation in tensions and increased autonomy for the Chinese division of Nexperia’s business.
