Exosomes are nanoparticles that naturally protect sperm from the female immune system and assist in penetrating tissues. The method was initially tested for treating retinoblastoma, a rare malignant eye tumor in children.
However, scientists discovered that these drops can cross physiological barriers, including the potential blood-brain barrier, which opens up possibilities for treating neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer’s.
The study by the Chinese team is published in the prestigious journal Science Advances, underscoring its scientific importance.
This breakthrough could pave the way for future clinical trials and the development of innovative therapies for Alzheimer’s disease, which remains a significant medical challenge.
Emerging biotechnologies like this provide hope for more effective and safer drug formulations in the future.
