Massive blackout: Afghanistan without internet and phone services — Netblocks

Afghanistan has experienced a nationwide internet shutdown, according to the international monitoring service NetBlocks. The blackout was reportedly ordered by Taliban authorities, citing measures related to “morality” and information control.

On the morning of September 29, multiple networks across all 34 Afghan provinces went offline, also disrupting phone services. The outage paralyzed key services, including Kabul airport, where passengers were unable to confirm tickets or coordinate travel details online.

Earlier this month, partial internet blackouts had already been reported in northern and western provinces. Sources say Taliban leader Hibatullah Akhundzada instructed the creation of a new state-controlled company to provide internet access exclusively to government institutions and diplomats.
