Meta to change AI prompts after chatbot’s personal questions — The Verge
Meta said it is changing the prompts suggested by its artificial intelligence chatbot following a viral video by Instagram user Kali Robbins. She said that Meta AI asked questions about her young daughters and displayed information related to them. The Verge reports.
Questions about the child in the video
According to Robbins, after she shared an Instagram video on Facebook, a Meta AI prompt appeared beneath the video asking: “Who is the child passenger?” In the video, Robbins and her child were singing in a car.
When she selected the prompt, the chatbot, she claimed, collected information about her daughters from previous posts as well as posts by her relatives. The AI also suggested additional questions about the children’s ages and where the family lives. Robbins said that the service displayed photos of her daughters, including an image that she said she had deleted from the platform several years ago.

Meta’s response
Meta spokesperson Dina El-Kassaby acknowledged that the company “missed the mark” and that the feature should not have suggested such questions to the user. According to her, Meta has already fixed the issue that caused Meta AI to suggest prompts related to personal topics.
Meta explained that the feature was created to help people get more information about topics or posts that interest them. Meta’s AI assistant is integrated into Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger; it can answer questions, write posts and generate images. In July, the company also withdrew a feature that allowed users to create AI deepfakes of other Instagram users following sharp criticism.
