China’s Moonshot AI aims to reach a $2 billion annual revenue run rate
Chinese artificial intelligence lab Moonshot AI plans to reach an annual revenue run rate of $2 billion by the end of 2026. This is twice the company’s annual revenue run rate reported for August.
TechCrunch reports, citing Bloomberg, that this is the target. The publication links the ambitious plan to the success of the K3 model, which Moonshot AI released this summer.
K3 usage
According to OpenRouter, K3 models generate up to 300 billion tokens daily in the system. At the same time, K3 usage metrics have declined somewhat in recent months.

Moonshot AI’s projected annual revenue run rate is significantly lower than those of OpenAI and Anthropic. Recent reports estimated their revenues at $40 billion and $65 billion, respectively. Moonshot AI’s model weights are freely available, so, according to TechCrunch’s assessment, the company’s margin is lower than that of competitors with closed models.
Anthropic’s accusations
Earlier this week, Anthropic accused Moonshot AI of a sustained model distillation campaign. According to Anthropic, nearly 300,000 requests from Kimi were routed directly to Claude Opus, effectively using Opus instead of Kimi’s own models.
Anthropic also said that more than 23 million responses from Anthropic models were collected for Moonshot AI’s training. These claims represent Anthropic’s position, not an established fact.
