Data of millions of users
During the investigation into the scandal, it became known that Cambridge Analytica had purchased the collected data from the personality quiz app thisisyourdigitallife. The app involved 270,000 users and their friends, totaling approximately 87 million Facebook users worldwide.
Facebook knew that Cambridge Analytica had purchased the collected data as early as December 2015. The company did not disclose this information until April 2018, when a whistleblower reported the situation. This triggered a major political scandal.
