Raspberry Pi publishes guide to building a cyberdeck

Raspberry Pi has published an official guide to building a cyberdeck — a compact homemade portable computer. The instructions include a list of required components and a detailed procedure for assembling the device, The Verge reports.

What the design includes

The Raspberry Pi option has a relatively simple design: the components are placed in a black Pelican-style case. The cyberdeck is assembled around a Raspberry Pi 5 board. The design also uses Raspberry Pi flash storage, a LiPo battery and a Bluetooth keyboard, with the battery hidden underneath it.

Raspberry Pi social media lead Ashley Whittaker said that this year the company cannot avoid the cyberdeck trend. Users build such small computers from bags, jewelry boxes, used and recycled parts, among other items, and showcase their projects on TikTok and other social media platforms.

Component prices

Raspberry Pi has raised prices several times this year due to growing costs of RAM and other components. In April, the price of the 16GB version of the Raspberry Pi 5 included in the official guide increased by $100. This is nearly equal to the board’s initial price of $120.

Cyberdeck creator Ennike Tan, whose videos have garnered millions of views on TikTok, continues to update her device made in a mermaid-style bag. In particular, she added a USB hub to it.
