Space.com reviewed the Lego Icons Project Hail Mary set with a rotating mechanism
The Lego Icons Project Hail Mary 11389 set, inspired by the movie *Project Hail Mary*, received high praise from a Space.com reviewer for its recreation of the spaceship and its interactive rotation mechanism. The model consists of 830 pieces, is recommended for ages 18 and up, and measures 30 × 25 × 22 cm.
According to Space.com, the set’s suggested retail price is $99.99 or 99.99 pounds. The set includes six numbered paper bags and a separate plastic bag for several large pieces. The build begins with a small diorama featuring the minifigures of Ryland Grace and Rocky, separated by a window that references their first meeting in the movie.
A significant portion of the build is taken up by a base featuring Technic elements and a mechanism that simulates the ship’s centrifugal force. Turning the handle rotates the entire model: clockwise, the crew module extends; counterclockwise, it retracts. The last two sets are dedicated to the spacecraft itself: its main hull with an engine, three fuselage sections, and an array of solar panels.

The reviewer noted that the model accurately captures the ship’s silhouette and key details from its on-screen version, including the fuel tanks and solar panels. At the same time, due to its relatively compact size, the ship lacks a detailed interior or hidden elements. The set’s advantages also include the absence of stickers. Among the drawbacks, the author cited the bulky base, which may distract attention from the ship, as well as the price-to-part ratio.
The set is aimed primarily at fans of the movie and those interested in more complex LEGO mechanical designs. At the same time, thanks to its moving parts, the finished model may also appeal to younger children, notes Space.com.
