Tesla to launch robot taxis in two more cities — Reuters

The American electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla is officially expanding its autonomous ride-hailing service to two major cities in Texas—Dallas and Houston.

This was reported by Reuters.

This comes after the successful launch of the project in Austin in 2025.

The company’s official account on social media platform X has released video footage showing Model Y crossovers operating in autonomous mode.

The footage shows the most popular SUVs maneuvering through city streets without a driver or observer in the front seats.

“Try Tesla Robotaxi in Dallas and Houston!” urged CEO Elon Musk, sharing the announcement on his page.

The CEO is placing a big bet on this sector, trying to stay ahead of the competition.

Currently, the autonomous transportation market is experiencing a period of rapid growth.

Tesla’s main rivals are Alphabet-owned Waymo and the Zoox project from tech giant Amazon, both of which are also accelerating their expansion.

For Tesla, the development of artificial intelligence and robotics has become a priority area of growth.

Elon Musk has deliberately shifted the focus from traditional electric vehicle manufacturing to the implementation of software for fully autonomous driving.

The company’s market capitalization, currently estimated at $1.3 trillion, is largely based on the success of autonomous technologies.

Investors expect that the transition to a robotaxi model will significantly increase the business’s profitability.

The initial testing phase in Austin involved special supervisors who monitored traffic safety. Over time, the company expanded the scope of its trips and began gradually phasing out the presence of a human operator in the vehicle.
