US President Donald Trump said that executives of technology companies who gathered at the White House to discuss artificial intelligence regulation had signed a commitment to create appropriate safeguards for the rapidly developing technology. Trump called the commitment morally binding, France 24 reported on September 29.

PitchBook analyst’s assessment

PitchBook senior research analyst Harrison Rolfes told France 24 journalist Monte Francis that stricter safety requirements could prevent open-source models from taking leading positions in the competition.

In his view, such measures also make it more difficult for new market participants to emerge with new advanced AI models. Rolfes believes that safeguards create a protective barrier around US artificial intelligence companies.
