Video: A humanoid robot was used for the first time in the U.S. to perform a surgical procedure
Researchers at the University of California, San Diego, have for the first time performed a complete cycle of minimally invasive surgery on live animals using the Unitree G1 universal humanoid robot. The robot, remotely controlled by a surgeon, successfully performed laparoscopic gallbladder removal on two pigs using standard medical instruments.
In accuracy tests, the Unitree G1 demonstrated results comparable to those of the research version of the specialized da Vinci system on simple tasks, and outperformed manual surgery on more complex procedures.
Although the robot currently lags behind specialized medical platforms in terms of speed and accuracy, the main value of the experiment lies in the possibility of using mass-market robotic solutions costing as little as $20,000 instead of surgical systems costing millions. It is expected that in the future, such humanoids will serve as remotely controlled assistants in remote hospitals and field hospitals.

In the U.S., Waymo has restricted the operation of about 4,000 robotaxis following a series of incidents in which self-driving cars drove onto blocked or dangerous sections of road. The incidents were recorded in Phoenix and San Francisco, where the vehicles ignored traffic signs and construction zones.
