$500,000 for resolving issues: a fake NABU employee exposed

The National Police, in collaboration with the NABU Internal Control Department, exposed a 29-year-old man who posed as a NABU employee and, in exchange for money, promised a businessman to resolve issues related to tax audits, court proceedings, and criminal prosecution.

According to the investigation, the man learned from the entrepreneur’s father about tax audits involving the entrepreneur and his wife totaling approximately 32 million hryvnias. The father assured the entrepreneur that his son allegedly held a high-ranking position at NABU and could help.

Between September 2025 and March 2026, the businessman transferred $280,000 to him. Later, the fake employee asked for another $200,000 to allegedly orchestrate a sham bankruptcy, have fines waived, and lift the seizure of assets.

During a subsequent meeting, the man brought a forged court document purporting to close the case. It was while receiving the money that law enforcement officers detained him.
